Newbie question here....what is the difference between ECC and non-ECC memory, and which, if either, is better???
Are they both an option to buy now??? Thanks for helping me fill a gapeing knowledge whole!!

Pretty much ECC is for Server non ecc is for PC
ECC mean there is extra memory on the chip that check for error before senting it to CPU
Note. most PC motherboard do not accept ECC memory
and Server motherboard only accept ECC memory
Server motherboard are one that design for server. Usually it is Multi processor capability
 
yep, ECC ram has built-in error correction. but it really is superfluous to purchase it for a home system, (assuming your mobo even supports it, as was stated above)
