Tried with our own Comcast box and with a friends Cox box (both are 8300 series IIRC), and despite any modifications to the picture-format settings (pass through, fixed, up converts 1 and 2), the output always says 1080i on the box, and the TV always says it's receiving 1080i.

One set is a sammy DLP and the other is an LG LCD. On OTA or PC hookup, they correctly identify 720p or 1080i conenctions so I'm pretty sure it's the box.

I think my dad has the same thing. I tried messing with it but I ended up just leaving it on auto because the picture kept getting messed up.

My 8300HD box from Time Warner detects and outputs both 720p and 1080i feeds just fine. Perhaps its a software/firmware issue?

yeah, same here:(

The thing is, our can do 1080p, so the default of 1080i is perfect since onle two stations broadcast in 720p around here.

I feel bad for my friend though since his tv is 1666x768:( and everythign doesn't look 'quite' perfect'

BTW... he was using it as a monitor using it at 1024x768 (4:3) and you should of seen his face when I fixed it and had it running at 1377x768 (best I could do)

He got all giddy and made me a sandwhich and everything:laugh:
