ive been around a while and still am not totally sure what BUMP does. is it a way to get your msg put back on the front page of a forum or something?

Exactly what it is. Other terms used to do the same thing are:

ttt - to the top
^

Actually, not quite. It will only go as high as the lowest sticky. It won't necessarily go to the top of the page. 😛

I wondered what it did also. Then I realized you had to have the option enabled in your preferences to list most recent posts on top.
