Question 'bout ECC...

Is it really worth the extra money? Was looking on Newegg at some Crucial PC2100 sticks... $40 for non-ECC, $78 for ECC... does the error correction(?) really justify the doubling in price?

Just a curiosity, it's been a while since I've looked for memory.

from what i understand, the ECC stuff is used a lot in servers or in applications where there can be absolutely NO mistakes....but if you're not running a server or you're not Bill Gates' kid than just go with the Non-ECC stuff. i haven't had a problem with it yet.

Your motherboard has to support it as well.

ecc is only needed in servers, where you need to be sure there will be no data corruption. in home use, you should go for non-ecc, as it is cheaper, and faster (by like 5%)
