question about wrath of the lich king

i know that you need to have a character of at least lvl 55 to create one, but when you do create a death knight, does that regular character transform into the death knight(in effect, you lose that character), or do you get to keep the character and get the death knight as something separate?

No, it's a new character just starting at level 55. Your old character is not changed at all.

It is very large and quite in charge 😀.

Also note that the 55+ character must exist on the realm in which you wish to create the Death Knight. This restriction will eventually be removed and it will be the old "as long as you have a 55, you can make one anywhere" rule.

Sure, currently death knights are scourge-only, but they're still undead.

It's my belief you can create any race on the alliance side or horde side.

Also, I think what's happening in the lore of Warcraft is that a few Death Knights have grown disenchanted with Arthas and have broken off to defend Azeroth from him. How that happens I have no idea. Not a Lorecraft nerd.

Blizzard will rewrite the Warcraft lore as many times as necessary to keep the executives in 10,000 suits and Leer jets.

Can't go to Northrend without being 68. Can't get to 68 without being in Outlands. Can't go to Outlands without hitting 58. You'll going to need the whole trilogy to play.

At this point it's one DK per server and it has to be on the same server as your level 55 character. The same server restriction is supposed to be lifted at some point.
