Why do they tell you to keep the received 8-12 inches away from any other device, but then give you a 3 foot cord to do it with?

Because a lot of people's computers are far enough away from the top of the desk that they need it? Consider it the other way around, would you rather it be short? Get a twisty tie and stop complaining

weren't wireless mice developed to address the problem that if your cord got stuck, your mouse inconveniently snagged if you moved it too far away? This seems to address the problem nicely

I think they say to keep it a few inches away from other components so that the signals don't get blocked...like mine currently are cos the only place to put the reciever at the moment is between my monitor and the huge chunk of metal that is my case

But saying that, having a wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse is darn nice! ;) No wires, and can be used anywhere in my room, and also can be used from the living room directly under my room, to control the DVD on the TV Out ;)

it reallly depends on the brand and what application your gana be using it for.

i had a wireless microshaft mouse b4 lagged a millisecond when i gamed and that millisecond kills you if its cs and such

but i hear that the mx700 mouse has minor to no lag and is basically the only mouse that games well. Unless someone else has otherwise to add.

I just got the MX700 (used my MSN dollars :D) and the cable is too short. Now I have to try and find a place for it so that it doesn't get interference, I can get easy access to the charger and I need to do it all with a 3 foot cord. I just figured that since they give you these guidelines, they should include a cable longer than just enough to clear from the USB port on my computer to the top of a desk.

I guess after work I'm going to radio shack to grab a USB extention cable. :)

My last wireless mouse was part of the Logitech set they gave free. It went through batteries pretty quick and wasn't that great of a mouse. The MX700 recharges itself and will let you know by LED that the battery is getting low.

And if you just placed it on the charger every couple of days, you should never have a problem. It's not much different than a cordless phone.

That brings up an interesting side question. Why are cell phones wireless phones, mice and keyboards are wireless, but phones are cordless? :)
