I've never installed or used xp, but i'm building 2 new comps and have decided to use it. from what i have read here, it seems that i will need to buy 2 copies of xp. is that correct? (btw if it is, i think that really sucks)

bonus question: how much ram does xp need to run well? will 256 cut the mustard?

No matter which verion of Windows you use, you have to purchase 2 copies to be legal. That is also true for all software that you use unless it's freeware.

As far as ram goes, 256 should be fine for most users.

I agree with Kent. 256 should be fine for the average user. I have 1g in mine, because I want it, but also because I use many graphic and video editing software programs at once.
