Ok, I'm have it set to "Let Windows manage my virtual memory setting" and noticed where it is dimmed out it says..

Hard Disk - C:\ -30111MB Free
Minimum - 0
Maximum - No maximum

Should it have a negative symbol there? Or is it ok?

Also, if I select "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings." it shows as..

Hard Disk - C:\ -30111MB Free
Minimum - 0
Maximum - 35429 (but as soon as I either hit the up or down arrow for the maximum setting it changes to -30,106)

Sorry if this is normal, but for some reason it looked strange to me.

I'm using Win98 SE, 40 GB HD with only about 3 GB's used and 128 MB's of ram.

Thanks

It`s best to specify your own memory so don`t let Windows manage it ,just put 256mb for both maximum & minimum in the boxes (type it in )anyway you will not need more then twice your ram(2x128) for virtual memory if a game needs more you can always increase it later. You will have to reboot afterwards.Btw it`s best to defrag your harddrive afterwards that way you will have slightly faster system since the Virtual memory will be a fixed size on your harddrive.

yeah, just set the min and max the same, and let it be high. since i have space to spare, i have mine as 1 GB ;-) yeah, one GB ;-)

256 MB is fine though ;-)

also, i'd get some backup for that system.

thaks for the advice.

I found this on Microsoft web site, the excact problem I'm having...

Negative Hard Disk Free Size Reported on Virtual Memory Tab in System Properties

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
When you view the Virtual Memory tab in System properties, the hard disk free size is reported as a negative number if your hard disk has more than 32 gigabytes (GB) of free space. If you use the arrows (the spinner controls) to change the values in the Minimum and Maximum size boxes for the paging file, negative numbers are also displayed.

CAUSE
The boxes display incorrect numbers for values that are larger than 32 GB.
