question about windows sharing

I have two computers i need to network together. Its setup so all my files (mp3s movies etc etc) are on my fileserver and I keep the one for gaming mainly. Now, before i make a complete moron of myself, I know all windows simple sharing blah blah etc etc. The problem is that Im on a school network and I need a way to do the sharing securely. I used to use samba under linux and only allow access to specific ips with username/passwords also. I had to stop that when I got some more hard drives and had to expand to using pci ide channels (linux drivers worked but were very touch and go).

Ideally id like the same sorta setup, specific ips with username. Is there a way to do this using either just windows, or some add-on?

Thanx in advance for any help.
