Question about Window

We had a window that rolled down but not up, and the shop told us it was the regulator. They also wanted to charge us $360 per regulator. F--- that. So I did it myself, and the window worked... sort of. It rolled down, but it didn't roll up STILL.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but it HAS to be the switch, right? I can't think of anything else it could be. For the record, the driver's side window doesn't go up or down, and the switch on the driver's side doesn't make the passenger window go up or down. I'm assuming that switch is blown as well.

So the driver's side window might have a bad regulator, but I'm hoping someone can tell me if the passenger-side window problem HAS to be the switch... right?
 
Easiest way in the world to tell if it's the motor or the switch, this is an old mechanic's "trick": If you have a volt gauge, keep an eye on it. If not, turn your dome light on and watch it. Now, turn you key to "run". Don't start it.
Now push the switch: If the switch is working and the motor isn't, you'll see the volt gauge move a bit or the light slightly dim. That means power is getting to the motor and it's trying to move, but is stuck.
If nothing happens.....either the switch or a relay if it has one. If one switch works a window and another doesn't, then that's the switch, as you suspected.
 
probably the gearbox on the motor is worn out. On most fords you can fix this for practically nothing (did so myself on my town car over the summer), but I don't know about other makes.

the fords use some plastic pins to couple the output shaft to the motor, these degrade over time (I can only assume their purpose is the wear out instead of the other parts because they are much cheaper than replacing the actual gears, but almost all dealerships will sell you an entire motor+gearbox as the fix anyway ...

a window that doesn't go up but goes down after a regulator/motor has been replaced can be a switch related problem.

on any window other then the drivers, you have 2 sets of switches. the master and that door switch. if non works then its the wiring. a lot of window switch wiring are having the switch hot all the time and when u hit the switch u add the ground to them.

if its a newer car, you might be able to roll windows up by inserting key in the door and holding it in lock. thats a another way to rule out the switch.
