Question about weight gaining supplements

TallBill

Lifer
I've been working out decently for the army to prepare for basic... but i havnt been able to do anything for the last month because of a bruised rib. I do have about 40 days of no work, no school to train hard... but was considering using some supplements.. nothing major.. but a well accepted one. Any insight? Would I even notice it just using it a month... And I would be working out hard during that month..

somthing like this?

My plan would be.. get up and eat breakfast.. a little later, run to a local gym, workout.. do some weights, but the real goal is to improve situps and pushups... do a few excersises i know, then run home... hour later make the mix, eat lunch.. 3 hours later make a mix and have my dinner..

my workouts will consist of a lot of pushups and situps, and related excersises using some weights.. but I can and have done every day. SO basiclly each day would be like above.. eating healthy food, taking the protein twice a day, and a run/workout every day.

For WEIGHT GAINER, ProLab's nLarge 2 is the best out there. Each serving will set you back roughly 700 calories. Most of the calories come from protein (about 46g in 600 calories), dietary fat, and maltodextrin (which isn't a bad carb, not for putting on weight).

However, I caution you against using weight gainer while you are not working out. It's very, very potent, and 80g of maltodextrin can go a long way to putting on a lot of weight.

For pure protein, I perfer Optimum's 100% Whey. The quality isn't the highest (its mostly whey concentrate) but it does the job well, for cheap. Each serving sets me back about 220 calories + milk, and that includes about 50g of protein (about 200 of those 220 calories do come from the protein). Right now, I'm taking that and not weight gainer because I'm trying to get cut for summer, but during mass-gaining weeks I do see results with nLarge 2.

A daily multivitatmin is cheap and does help.

I also take creatine -> it leads to pretty good strength gains. But then again, I'm a powerlifter.

Cheers.

yeah.. like i said.. i'll be doing medium to light workouts every day... to build up endurance and strength.. you say not to take weight gainer while working out.. would my daily 30-60 minute + several mile run workout be enough? and would i see any effects from creatine or vitamins?

also, any idea what happens when i'd ship out and suddenly not be taking things? side effects?

also.. where do you get your stuff? gnc? local stores? mail? cuz if its mail, i need to decide what to do pronto

thanks

Don't know how close you are to the weight limits, but if you're at least 10-15 lbs under the limit, then I would go ahead and get some whey and creatine. The optimum nutrition stuff is good and cheap. $50 or so for 10 lbs. As always, the internet is going to be cheapest. I think our last order was from vigorousliving.com, I don't think there were any problems ( I wasn't buying ) GNC is gonna rip you off in relative terms.

Yeah, save your money and just eat good food. Supplements don't have any kind of anabolic properties to make you any bigger than you would be if you were eating a balanced diet. Massive amounts of calories and protein won't magically make you bigger unless you're talking about fat deposition. A protein shake right after a workout is nice for proper recovery and convenience, but knocking back gallons of the stuff every day is just pointless.

Weight gainer is crap, it works but it makes you feel and look like sh*t. Lots of meat, cheeze, lettuce and crappy foods works well.

Works well to do what? I'm assuming TB wants to put on muscle; anyone can put on as much fat as they want by hitting your local McDonalds three times a day. You gotta eat good stuff if you want to see the maximum benefits of working out.

Crap in = crap out.

What the hell are you talking about?

Every time you open your mouth you say something more and more rediculous. As if the 'cell phones = drunk dealer' part is bad enough.

It's obvious you are either trying to provoke people or you are as dumb as a mother fvcking rock. I swear to god.

STOP POSTING.

Where's my checklist...

Eat a can of tuna fish a day (im not kidding). For 33 cents a can, you're getting about 58g of protein per can (if you eat 2 cans a day.. thats 116 grams of protein per a day... wow). Check out powerlifting boards... there are hundreds of posts about how tuna not only one of the best sources of protein/muscle mass, but also the cheapest.

Maltodextrin + Dietary Fat + Protein != Cheese + Pizza

God the ignorance in this thread is amazing.

Fausto1 is correct on a lot of things. I only take about 60g a day in supplement protein. If I had to take more, I would realize that I am not enough enough calories from other sources. Calorie intake is the most important thing. And besides, if you all of a sudden start taking 150g a day in protein, it's going to tear through your wallet and your large intestine.

If you can stand the taste.....the only tuna I can stand is albacore. The cost per serving of an Optimum Whey 100% shake isn't much higher than $.50 a serving. If a few cents bother you that much, perhaps there's another problem.

And yes, I'm fully aware of the much hyped deep-squatter.com(I think?) tuna shake. Fvcking digusting, worse than the worst types of protein, taste-wise.

Plus, while tuna has omega EFAs, Whey protein is of a higher biological value, especially when used after a workout.

Kidneys, schmidneys. I figure that when I'm old enough to have kidney or liver problems, they should be able to synthesize them 😛 😀

I don't know about weight gaining supplements but I sure would like to know about weight losing ones!😉🙂

Situps and pushups are good, but also do some pullups and get your lungs/heart in shape for cardiovascular.
