Question about Volts and mA

Yup. The adapter supplies a *maximum* of 300mA @ 6V. Anything that requires a lower current will be fine.
 
Yes. The voltage supplied by the adapter must be the same as required by the device; the current rating must be equal to or higher than the device spec (the device will only draw what it needs).

Edit: the supply type (AC or DC) must be correct, and if DC, the polarity must be correct as well. Are you sure the device you're trying to power runs AC?
 
yippy skippy , a device that can provide more than the required current is always ok, just not less, or you'll blow a seal
