Question about virtual memory

Why do I get a "Windows is now increasing your VM size..." and then the HD works like mad for a few minutes?

I have 256 PC2100 and Win2K. My swap file is set at 256-256. Anything I should change?

not really. Maybe 2-3 max. The weird thing is that I also get this message when I'm logged off!

eww ???logged off???

Prolly beyond me.
Hit ctrl-alt-del and check the processes tab. See what it's running when it does this, and when it's not doing it.
Also (i'm in 98 right now, so bear with me), turn on your system resource monitor "start/programs...", and see what that says.
If you haven't.

More nfo too.

The process that seems to be taking up most of the VM is the cisvs.exe file. Whatever that is.

Here is the scenario: When I browse the web for about 1-2 hours or so, I get the message "Windows is now increasing your VM ..." and the HD starts working for a few minutes and everything slows down. A few times actually, I leave the computer and log off (what I always do) and come back to see that the same error message popped up on top of the log-on box. What the heck is going on? Isn't 256 megs enough?

Thanks for all the help

Since you have it set to 256MB max it should not tell you that it is creating more space, it should only tell you you are running out.

Does your Device Manager say anything is malfunctioning?

gnognugs, you're right.

But in device manager everything seems to be fine.

I really don't know anymore 🙁
