Question about vinyl dye...

Let's say I need to dye something and requires a lot of detailing that an aerosol can, in which vinyl dye normally comes in, won't do. Does the dye come in a form that can be "painted" onto the surface? Like regular paint, using a paintbrush or a Qtip or something along those lines.

I've done what you describe with regular spray paint before. I sprayed it into a plastic container, then used a brush.

When you say "requires a lot of detailing" do you mean that the object to be dyed has lots of nooks and crannies? Spray paint gets EVERYWHERE. No need to brush by hand.

If the object to be dyed has some areas that you DON'T want the dye to get on, just tape them up w/newspaper and masking tape.

Any time you paint, the masking/covering is half the job and really determines how well the job comes out.

How much do I get if I spray it into a container? Also, I know vinyl dye dries pretty quickly...will this be a problem if I go the container route?

depends on th size of the can

it will tend to dry pretty fast, so spray small amounts at a time

No, there are areas I don't want to get the dye on and I need to be very careful about it, so I don't want to risk masking it then spraying.

Wait one more question...if I paint it on by hand, will it go on unevenly? Like, will some places be a different shade than others?
