Yeah well i'm setting up a friends laptop who has had bad experiences with his Laptop and likes things as simple as possible. He didn't like using a standard account because of the hassle of having to use an admin account for some things....He's using XP Home. I unlocked the SRP for him so he has some better protection as well as setup ZoneAlarm with Program Control on low because he can't stand the program control popping up and asking for permission and other things to try and help. If any user action is really needed he won't like it. LOL. he also uses the simplest passwords and avoids them when he can......
I have had to fix his laptop allot.........Allot.......I even showed him Ubuntu but he didn't like it.
He managed to corrupt his backup on his Mybook.
Now I have explained to him a million times on the importance of security. But he is so damn stubborn.
All I can do is try to secure it as much as possible while making it as simple as possible and hope for the best and............hope I don't have to deal with his laptop for awhile. I help cause were good friends and he helps me out with stuff.
Which is why I am wondering.....Should I add the Adaware Ad-Watch or is it overkill with the other programs I'm using.
Plus he only has 1 gig of memory with 128mb being used from his video card. So it gets ate up fast. I keep telling him he should get two 1gb sticks. Maybe even add in a usb flash drive too and use it as a virtual memory drive.
Trying to lock it up the best I can and keep the bad guys out. I am trying to teach him.....He setup his wifi......Something tells me the security is not on that either or wep is.....Me to the rescue.
I haven't had an issue in years....
