Question about upconversion

do up converters also convert non widescreen DVDs(I don't mean change it to widescreen from 4:3 but increase the resolution so that it is still 4:3 but hi def)?
I got a PS3 will it upconvert 4:3 aspect DVDs?

it should, but can vary player by player. My Sony PS3 handles 4:3 DVD's upscaled fine at 4:3 aspect ratio...however on SD 4:3 material on BD it stretches. On my LG BH200, it stretches all 4:3 SD material (I get around it by changing the aspect of my display).

my player stretches 4:3 dvds too. luckily i don't have many 4:3 dvds.
