Question about universal remotes

I bought a pioneer dvd player off eBay, only realize after winning that it doesn't come with a remote (doh!... oh well, it was still a steal). My question is this:

If I buy a universal remote from RadioShack or somewhere, will I be able to get all of the functionality of the original remote? Stuff from on screen displays, parental settings, Setting letterbox/pan scan etc...

Or should I just try to find a replacement for the original... which actually costs more than the dvd player?

a universial remote will work, just make sure it has buttons for everything you need, i dont use 1/2 the buttons on my DVD remote anyway

Depends if they already have the functionality of your particular model programmed in. The pre-programmed ones is usually just generic stuff like play and pause and stop for different brands.
Those 'learning' ones OTOH need the original remote to copy codes from, but you might be able to download your model's codes, which would duplicate every button.
