Do you tip at buffets? If so, do you tip the same amount as a full-service resturants?

When we were in Orlando, FL last week, we ate a Ponderosa for their 4.99 breakfast buffets. When we got the reciept, it asked for a 15% tip (printed on). We just gave 2 bucks, since all the guy did was take away our plates (and he did a bad job at that). He gave us a bad look, but we were like fvck you buddy, if you didn't wait till we were about to leave to take away our plates you would have gotten more.

I thought the general policy was that you dont tip at buffets.. Not sure, my parents always just leave a few bucks, not as much as 15% though

Yep, i tip full service, IF the service was good... if i get up to get another plate of food, my old plate better be gone! If I return and it's there, obviously the service is crap. And they should be refilling my drinks often as well.

Haha, he ASKED for a tip? He'd get nothing for me, just for his shamelessness.

I always tip. I have a tip card with me to tell me how much I should tip. :)

Well, we did leave $4 bucks when we ate a Chinese buffet Christmas night, and that was mainly because my Dad was almost killed by some black teenagers who thought it would be funny to try to run him off the road (him, bike, them, car) when he was returning home from working as a bus boy (when he was in college).

What percentage does the tip card says to tip at a buffet?

It never says about buffet but 15% and 20%. If the receipt says $50, I would tip in $7.50 and $10 according to 15% and 20% respectively.

I tip like I would type at any other resturant. Good service good tip. Bad service bad tip.

At a buffet the bus boy (person) is getting paid at least minimum wage, there is no reason to tip.

You know at most major resturants waiters/waitress get min wage too before tip, atleast in California.

For most other states wait staff gets paid less than minimum due to tips.

Not good with math?

Right, I suck at math. :p

It's easy... figure out 10% first - just move the decimal point one place to the left. So for $55, that would be $5.50. To tip 20%, just double that. To tip 15%, add half.

Or go by the tax. Tax here is 6%, so you could just double the tax and add a bit more.

Hey, I still suck at math.

I'm sophomore in college and I haven't took any math courses since high school. :Q

Buffet standard is a buck per person... the bus staff and waiters expect a buck per person, anything above that is a pleasant surprise.

Depends on what they are doing. Some you have to do everything yourself but you still have a waitress. Makes no sense. Others that do have service, it depends on how they treat me.....
