question about thermalright SLK-800

hi,
yesterday, i purchased a thermalright SLK-800 w/ Quiet YS-Tech 80mm Fan.
after i installed it in my system, i found out that it came with some pads to help balance the HSF on the CPU.

Do they HAVE to be installed?

because of my MoBo(KT7A-RAID), to take the HSF off i`ll have to remove the MoBo, which is a pain in the ass. as i spent all day, fitting it in my new case (chieftec full tower) and tidying the cables to optimise airflow.

it seems to run perfectly fine, and importently cool. 30*C idle, 36*C load.

I believe they give you the pads because the actually base of the HS is smaller than the distance between the pads on the CPU. I think that it is in your best interest to put them on so you do not risk damaging the die. Im just concerned that during the process of taking it off you might damage it anyway. So it depends on what you want to do. Its risky either way.

i think i`ll just leave it how it is.
on a side note, the SLK-800s kick butt.
i got in on the advice of a sales person from overclockers, who said, that a SLK-800 and a silent YS-Tech 80mm fan would be both cooler and quieter than the zalman i was goin to get for my XP1800(brought at the same time). and he was right.
