question about thermal paste

It's from the arctic cooler fan for the geforce 6. It's called MX-1 on the syringe. I'm trying to use it on the athlon 64 because that's all I have.

i am certain it will work well... since they serve the same purpose, which is to enhance the contact between the cpu and heatsink base

So it really doesn't matter right? Really don't want to fry the CPU. Not an expensive one but still.

No, he was saying as long as it's not thermal adhesive. There is thermal paste (IE Artic Silver 5, Ceramique), and then there is thermal adhesive, which is used for literally to glue heat sinks to RAM on video cards, etc.

nevermind, the tube ran out. I'll get some tomorrow. Which one is good that lasts for decades?

JFYI that MX-1 is the same paste they include with their cpu heatsinks. But since you ran out the good stuff that you want is Artic Silver 5.

The arctic silver 5 is very sticky. It kind of glued to the heatsink together with the CPU. It took a bit of force to seperate them to check the spread of the paste. It's still ok right? How hot should a 3200+ venice be when idle and loaded?
