Question about the Xbox 360 S 4 gig

My grandson and I are having a debate about the X-Box 360. Can you play all games with the 4Gb model or do you need the larger hard drive to play most games.
How about online play?? He wants to buy the 4Gb model for 199.00, but I want to make sure he can play all the games before we buy that and then find we have to buy a hard drive too.

Yes, you can play all games with the 4 GB model, but the DVD drive will always be spinning and can be annoying to some people.

He will be limited to the number of "Arcade" games he can download and play with only 4GB, but you can buy a bigger USB thumb drive if you need more storage.

I personally would spend the extra $100 for the hard drive unit.

BS. You don't "need" a HDD for any games on the 360.

Serious question for you RS: are you as dumb in real life as you are on the internet?

Lmao, People trying to play Halo 3 and other games are having a hell of a time when the game tells em they don't have an HDD. Google is your friend bro...

P.s. I might have been exaggerating a bit, but still, not having an HDD/Low capacity leaves out a lot of features.

I've played Halo 3 on an Arcade unit before and it works fine.

When you make statements like:

You need a HDD for certain games...mostly the majority.
it just makes you look like a fool and/or a troll.

frozentundra, if you want reliable information, do NOT listen to RavenSEAL. And don't listen to warcrow when he comes in to defend him.

Anyway, you do NOT need the hard drive to play games on the 360. As said by Drako, the lack of a hard drive is really only going to affect you on downloadable content, such as Arcade titles and game add-ons. If you don't plan on buying any DLC, then you'll be good to go.

The only notable exception is there might be a game here and there that might require the hard drive for a single feature. The biggest (and only) example I can think of is playing online campaign coop in Halo: Reach.

Halo 3 != Halo Reach for one.

Thank you for admitting to misleading someone on this forum.

The answer for the OP is simply: Some games (though very few) will require a HD for SOME functionality. The only real example I can think of is Forge World in Reach, and the theater (recording videos);

Also, for the old "Xbox 1" titles, a HD might be required - unsure if the 4GB Slim model is good enough for that, but the old Xbox Arcade models, with 256MB of memory built in, were not able to handle it.

Simply put: 99% of all 360 games are fine on the 4GB model; there are going to be a few select titles requiring a hard drive, and those should be clearly marked on the back of the boxing (I'll check the back of my Reach box to see what the requirements say.)

I just picked up the 4GB Slim last week. You shouldn't need a HDD for the majority of titles, probably 99% of them. Though like mentioned certain games have extra features that require one.

I personally would just buy a 16GB USB flash drive when one is on sale and use that (or two).

Thanks for all the replies. We did go ahead and purchase the 4GB model. We found some good deals on older models with hard drives, but they did not have wireless, so they were not that good a price when you consider that the wireless adapter is so expensive and we do not want to run cables to the machine.
So far we are happy with the 4gb model. Might pick up a hard drive later though if we need it. Too bad you cant use a PC wireless adapter or USB hard drive. Microsoft sure knows how to rip you off on accessories. I have an extra wireless adapter and external hard drive, but I dont think either will work with the X-Box.

The new Slims have wireless built in, not sure why'd you want a different wireless dongle. I believe USB hard-drives will work, but the Xbox can only see up to 16GB of storage. Which is why I recommended the 16GB flash drives.

FWIW, I think someone benchmarked the XBox Wireless G adapter and determined it was one of the best adapters out there...

I just got the 4gb model a few weeks back. As stated a couple posts up, the new 4gb model has wifi built in and it works great for me with the router in another room. As for the hard drive, I used a couple of spare thumb drives for demos, but if you anticipate wanting a regular HD then I would buy it as the package deal for only $100 more for the 250gb model. Personally I went a different route and bought a 60gb regular 360 HD, which doesn't fit the new 4gb slim model, but it does if you take it apart and put just the 2.5 drive into the HD space. I got the 60gb HD on ebay for about $40 shipped which is plenty of space for me.

Huh? He asked people to be civil and put RavenSEAL on ignore if they have a problem with him. How is that defending him? If anything, he's actually confirming what you wrote about RavenSEAL 😀 And in a civil way too!

As for OP, the non-HDD version will play things fine (apart from some things mentioned already). I'd personally grab one with a HDD just to not suffer from the DVD noise.

It's interesting you think I was directly defending RavenSEAL, when I actually think they guy is pretty annoying--like several people here. 🙂 That doesnt mean we should sink to his level though. If you read what I said it should be pretty apparent (at least to me) that I was questioning the preceiveable immaturity or curtness of the responses to him.

What fails is you RavenSEAL. What's funny is I don't go into PS3 threads becuase I don't have one and don't need to make myself look like an idiot by talking out my ass. Thanks again for contributing so much to another Xbox thread.

I understand you're annoyed with the guy but is this really the best way to handle it? Regardless of what we (or more specifically you) think, he's got the right to come in here and express his opinion (and you, yours). This is a discussion board--relax and put him on ignore or talk to an admin. 😉

I take a few years off of these forums and I come back to childish little idiots like you running around trolling. And no moderators even seem to care.

Grow up and post when you have something USEFUL and MATURE to add.

...because you handled it so eloquently, eh? To be fair the mods probably havent done much (in your eyes) because he's not really breaking any rules. Why dont you just mark him 'ignored' and be done with it?

Can you point out what it is that makes you think I was directly defending him? I'm re-reading what i wrote and not seeing it--like, at all.
