question about the x1900xt(x) noise levels

heya.. just wondering if the fan only spins the fastest during load (gaming) or is it noisy even when left idle?

From what I've read, there are three levels of noise this card makes, idle/gaming/startup, and that the startup is intolerable, gaming seems "loud".

To me its loudist at post when the fan is spinning 100% after it goes into windows it gets alot quieter. It does get alittle louder the more graphic intense stuff your showing because as the temps rise on your card the fan spins faster but not near as loud as some people think. I'll have the Accelero X2 coming tomorrow which should lower temps and noise level a bunch.

should only spin up on start up (ie before the software kicks in to control the fan) and probably during gaming. shouldnt be loud all the time

but many say that the noise during gaming is verging on a little too loud for comfort. but it all depends what other things you have in your case, where your case is, and the noise level of your current system

gosh this heat and noise is really making it difficult to make up my mind!

i'm hearing the card reaches 95 degrees celsius on load ! and that thread that was linked in the 2nd post has a lot of negative comments about the noise

and what about this aftermarket cooler? the Accelero X2.. is that any good? i read in another thread on AT that it isn't.. are there other solutions? any by zalman?

The only time my card reached 90 is when I was using ATI's overdrive to oc the card. After It found the stable settings the card was about 53 idle and upper 70s on load. The main reason why people dont care fo the accelero x2 is because it moves away from blowing the hot air out of the back of the case. I am for one not to fond of this but it does lower temps alot and also the noise level. As for zalman, I'm not sure if there is currently a sollution by them yet or not.

Ohh and the noise really doesnt bother me while I'm playing games. As a matter of fact i can barely hear it.

Actually, contrary to what they say, the noise is so loud, it'll pop your eardrums after prolonged exposure. Also, the heat may or may not melt the side of your case. As long as it's higher quality, it should be fine...

Mine's perfectly quite. Of course, I replaced the noisy fan with a MAZE4 water block...
