Question about the P4 2.4b sl6rz chip.

Went to fry's after work to see what they got. Bought one, and to my surprised its a sl6rz. The question is what stepping is it? The voltage isn't printed on the chip.

Thanks

If your lucky, that thing should do 3.2GHZ easily like other VID c1s have been doing....GOODLUCK and keep us posted.

I haven't gotten any cpu over 2.8(all 1.8c1) on my board. Not sure its the motherboard or ram holding me back. I'll test it out tomorrow.

Here is the print on the chip:

2.40GHZ/512/533
SL6RZ MALAY
L304A387-0733

gseti has the same chip week 4 2003 running 3.4GHz with 1.6-1.65 voltage,3.2GHz at default voltage. You should get the same.Hope your memory and mobo is up to the task.

Nice JG, I think that's the most recent FPO batch I've seen to date. And a Malay "L" to boot! The guys over at OC have late 2002 batches while yours is the first 2003 I've seen. SCORE!! I'll be putting in an order online for one soon myself. Get on it and report back man!

Playing with my good old P4 1.8a this morning before taking it out. Found something funny. I reset the bios setting so the chip is back to 1800mhz instead of 2800. It can't make it to Windows, kept getting BSOD. LOL Set it back to 2800 with default voltage and it is fine again. Never ran 1800 before since I ran it at 2800 when I first installed the chip. Too slow for Windows or it too used to fast speed? hehehe

Ok, not a good start. Fry's plastic box held the cpu really tight. Trying to take the cpu out I bent multiple pins! Can't get the cpu into the socket. Have to use a pin to straigthen out the pins so it can go into the socket. I'll update later.

F$%k. It max out at 155fsb again! I get memtest error on 156fsb, error on test 6 again!. I'll head to fry's to get some Cosiar to see its the ram or not.

Ok. I got 2 x 256mb Corsair Plat. C2 PC3200. Tried 156fsb and passed 5 loop of memtest. First passed 156 with this motherboard. Next 167fsb with memtest.

Edit: I can run memtest at 167 and passed 3 loops, but can't get into Windows. hmmm

Your CPU should do 3.2 GFz at default voltage.gsethi has the exact same one.I think its the crappy Aopen Mobo your using or the bios isn't set up right.

Could be my scsi card not likely high fsb even though its set to lock to 68/34.

Try locking the AGP/PCI at 66/33

Just found something interesting. I put back in my 1.8a c1. I can boot into Windows at 160fsb with 1.8, but get BSOD with the 2.4 Could this particualr 2.4 a bum chip? When I get this chip, it appears to been used. I can see scratches on the heat spreader. Maybe someone return back to Fry's becasue its not a good overclocker? Hmmm

Let me test more with 1.8 and the corsair memories.

I doubt that. Even my chip had some fingerprints and a small scratch on the corner of the heatspreader. Even i thought that my chip was used but it turned out to be good chip. Those scratches/fingerprints you are talking about are of people packing the chip in those tight containers.

Most prolly its your motherboard. Oh one more thing, try overclocking with only 1 memory chip instead of 2. People have had problems w/ 2 memory chips, maybe that will solve it.

Thats why i went w/ one 512mb stick rather than 2x 256mb stick because i also had problems with my previous setup using 2 memory sticks.

hope that helps....

well, for me, time to go and test 195 FSB 😉

I agree...I think these chips going over 3ghz really need a good supply of power and not just the power supply but how the mobo handles the power to it...remember the inquirer article about 3ghz chips going to need a new type of phase power??? hence the abit bh7 and its 4 phase power step in and is supposed to be the enthusiasts board...

I guess you guys are right. This board won't do over 160 fsb. 🙁 Can't let this board go since its so expensive. I guess I have to look for a good 2.0ghz that can do 155 with default voltage. I also tested my 1.8a c1 at a friend's board and it can do 3Ghz at default voltage. 🙁

maybe one of those abit Bh7's for 99.00 dollars or an albatron PX845PEV Pro like mine for 82.00 at newegg....I have mine running as high as 185fsb....

Thanks Duvie for the tip. 🙂
This board is limited, but I get 38xx/38xx memory score on sandra with 155fsb. The hunt for 2.0 c1 begins then I can sell this 1.8a c1. 🙂
