Question about the Movie "Crash"

Well it got nominated for Best Picture, so it seems those of you claiming it's no more than a racist roller coaster with no real story.. there ya go. Brokeback will still win in a landslide, but being nominated still says something. Munich was also nominated, which I would pick to win but who am I? 😛

I just watched it on DVD and there's no doubt she bought blanks with no idea they were blanks. She just bought whatever bullets were in a red box.

If she knew they were blanks, she wouldn't have been shocked by her Dad's story.

The whole movie is about this kind of irony, the bad cop is the hero, the good cop is foolish and kills because of prejudice.

The person we think is the most innocent victim, turns out to be a slave trader.


btw, this is a great movie, but it strikes me as very much the same movie as Grand Canyon, which is possibly even better.

Uh no, it's quite the opposite. She bought them on purpose. She was surprised that he went and hunted some guy down, "shot" him, and ended up "hitting" his daughter.

Think about it. Your dumbass brother wants a gun and you know he's irresponsible. You buy him blanks because you don't want him shooting his own damn self. He then tells you that he went out and hunted down the guy who did the paintjob on his car with the intent to murder him, shot at him, and instead just about killed the guy's kid. Tell me that you wouldn't be shocked to hear that story, even knowing that you gave him blanks.

An interesting point, but for you to be right we have to believe that the daughter was putting on an act at the gun store, about not knowing anything about bullets, even after her father was escorted out. That would be completely illogical, she gains nothing by "fooling" the gun shop owner.

She asks the gun owner to give her any bullets that fits. He makes very sexist and demeaning remarks in response. She is angry, and doesn't want to deal with the gun shop owner, so she asks for the bullets in the red box, she does not ask for "blanks". The gun owner asks her if she knows what they are ? She says just give them to me. There is absolutely no indication throughout the movie that she or her father ever know there is even such a thing as a "blank". The only one who we know knows, is the gun shop owner, and we can see that he thinks it will be funny when the people he hates try to defend themselves with them.

The movie director and writer would have no reason to make a story the way you describe it. There would be no tension when the father shoots the girl. There would be no powerful emotional scene afterwords between the father and daughter.

The whole movie is about events and people who do good things or bad things, by trying to do the opposite. And how seemingly trivial things have huge consequences. The movie creators show us the car-jacked husband sticks the jacker's gun in his pants, we know the young cop is making a big mistake, the payoff for us as the audience is it doesn't turn out the way we thought it would, the expected thing would have been the cops get shot because the young cop didn't do his job right.

Thats the way I see it.
