Question about the Logitech Z-640 6 Speaker Surround Sound System

How much better will speakers (such as these Logitech speakers) sound when upgrading from cheapo onboard audio to a decent Creative / Turtle Beach SC ($40-$70) sound card?

more specifically, will the sound just be clearer? not more powerful? will it be more "tweakable"?

thanks

Tim

Depends what kind of "cheapo onboard sound" you have, the nforce one is pretty good and you might not be able to tell a difference, if its AC90 audio or something like that you probably will notice a difference in your positioning audio, and it might reproduce high and low ranges better.

I would think the main difference in sound besides features and performance would be in the signal to noise ratio. A decent card like the TBSC and more so the Creative Audigy have a digital to analog converter that produces a significantly clearer sound. However, whether it is noticeable is dependent largely on the quality of the external amplifier. An el cheapo one can more than make up for it by introducing its own noise. An amp and six speaker system that retails for $50 is bound to be hissy. For gaming, the hardware sound card would dominate AC97 but otherwise you may be better spending all of your budget on a better amp/speaker set.

thanks for the info....this speaker set seems to be a good seller....lots of people are jumping on it since the price has come down
