Question about the digital out on the SB Live

I just got a soundblaster live x-gamer which has a digital output. I originally thought that I could run a coaxial digital cable from this output to a digital coax input on my dolby digital receiver and run pc sound through my home theater. However, I recently read that the digital output on the card can only be used to connect to digital computer speakers. Can I connect the digital out to my stereo or will that not work? Thanks for any help!

Ah, I don't know! good question... I have the I/O daughter board with the S/PDIF connector... sounds great with my yamaha reciever! There is an optical daughter board you can get too.

Yes you can, just get a minijack to RCA converter cable (headphone plug on one end, rca plugs on the other end). Plug the headphone plug into the digital out on the live (probably yellow) and the rca plug into the digital in on your receiver. Try both rca jacks because one may not work and the other will. I used to do this and it worked fine.

I know that you can get stereo with the rca left/right jacks that's what I have now, but I think that the question is can we get the SBLive surround by connecting the digital out from the sblive to the Surround Receiver system (not just stereo but surround sound)?

Using my method will give you dolby digital in movies and regular digital sound in everything else.
