question about the Borg

Ok so supposedly those nanites convert people into cyborg. But how can that happen because the human body is pretty much a closed system, so there aren't any heavy elements you'd need for metallic components. There's barely enough metal in the human body to make a nail let alone an arm out of metal.

I'm probably thinking too hard.

they build and graft those things onto them.

the implants grow from within. the attachments are just that... attached

You'd need a nuclear reactor to convert lighter elements to heavier ones, there's no nuclear reactor in a human body and no elements to make a nuke reactor in the first place, so catch 22.
