I want to get the Asus PT4 because it has the base plate so I can still use my antec 830 case, but will it support a 1.9-2.0ghz P4 (socket 423 of course)

Yes it will support all P4 CPU`s, but the last few cases we got at the shop
are w/o the metal plate. So I think ASUS did away with it.

I thought I read somewhere that because of the board lay out that you had to use the base plate no matter what

The asus still comes with the base plate, as the config of the board won't line up to other P4 ready boxes/ the ram is in the spot where the others have the cpu installed.

The P4T now comes with plastic tabs that push into the motherboard
and hold the fan brackets into place. This is so the board can be
used with a wider variety of cases.

I understood that the 1.9 and 2.0 G P4 was the 473 pin form factor.

If you check some of the retail spots that have motherboards (pcprogress.com, motherboardexpress.com ...etc) They have motherboards for the 1.9 and 2.0 using the socket 473.

The 19 and 2.0Ghz Willamette P4's are available in Socket423 & S478.
