Question about submarine authorization codes

When they receive the Emergency Action Messages (EAM), they have to confirm the authenticity of the incoming messages by codes locked in a safe on the sub. Are they comparing a code listed on the message with the codes they remove from the two safes?

If that's the case, then the codes are put on the sub prior to the mission. It seems that there are several codes in the safe, and that the codes would have to be put into the safe in a particular order. Otherwise, when an EAM comes in, the first code in each safe is taken out, and the message is discarded all 3 codes (one on the message, two code cards) don't agree?

you would have to ask either an officer, a radioman, a FTM or a missle tech and they probably can't/won't tell you that level of detail

or it might be posted somewhere on the internut

i worked in the engineroom, so i don't know much about the details of that

i remember that two people/officers had to hold onto the message together

i never watched crimson tide because the trailer looked so unrealistic it made me sick (the scene where the officer makes the guy do pushups on the bus, IIRC. that isn't the way it is)

i spent 4 years on a trident submarine (USS Florida Gold crew)

so dunno the details of verifying EAM's. during battle stations missile i was somewhere in the back of the boat trying to stay awake ;)
