Question about stereo display problem....

I have 2 stereos, and a vcr that all work fine, but over time the digital displays quit working and no longer show up. It still works to some extent because you can hold up a flashlite to the display and make out what station you are listening to, or where the tape is at, etc. I was just wondering if this is something that can be fixed? (a burned out bulb of some sort, maybe?) Anyone else ever had this happen? Thanks.

a vcr repair shop could probably fix it. I'm not sure for how much$, though.
