Question about Sport Bikes

I'm casually looking at getting a motorcycle. I'm not exactly sure about what I want to get. I've never ridden a sport bike so I have a few questions for those that have.

1: Are the comfortable? They don't look like they are, seems sile such a weird position to ride in. Or does it just look weird?

2: Are they hard on your back/wrists?

3: How are they for longer trips? Like 100miles? I rarely see them on interstate so I'm guessing there is a reason why.

4: Any other coments or advice?

1)
No, not at all. They're not made or intended for long distance riding

2)
Hard on lower back, you can make it somewhat better by sticking on some tank grip pads. Can be hard on wrists if you do a lot of heavy braking (your body shits forward)

3)
See above

4)
You are looking for a BMW or a cruiser. Sport bikes are made for going fast around turns, not eating mile markers on the interstate.

Also if you don't know how to ride, getting a new 600/750/1000 the fastest way to get donate your kidneys.

Well I know how to ride, I've ridden many dirtbikes and cruisers. Just never a sport bike. So I'm not a "novice".

I'm more interested in the comfort factor.

Some naked bikes may have the combination of performance and comfort you're looking for. They sit higher and make it easier on your back and arms, plus you have a ton of leverage in the twisties by leaning the top of your body.

1. No not at all, some are worse than others though. I rode my buddys F4i and it seemed like a recliner compared to my 675. Its all about how you hold yourself up though, squeezing your legs on the tank helps a lot.
2. I have helibars on my bike which really helped the wrist factor. It moved the wrist position out and moved the bars back. As for the back thing, you get used to it, but, its still not ideal.
3. Terrible, i have done 400 miles in a day on my bike before and i could not move well for about 3 days after. As said above, if your looking to burn down the miles, get anything besides a sport bike.
4. I rode dirtbikes for a long time (since i was 5) and had a CB350 i rode on the rode for 2 years before i got the 675. Trust me, you have NO idea how fast they are until you ride one.

This is basically what I expected. I'll probably just look for a cruiser. My right wrist gets sore enough the way it is(tendonitis from being in IT and gaming). I'm gonna try to look for a cheaper 80's bike.

You might want to try Triumph's Speed Triple. It's based off of the Daytona 675 and it has handlebars so it's a lot more comfortable than the clip-ons that crotch rockets come with

i'd say look into naked bikes if you want sportiness with the ability to tour some.

Yamaha FZ6, Ducati Monster, and the like. Jules, where does the SV650 fall in suzuki's lineup?

Well if you don't need something blazing fast, but want a "sporty" ride, I would look at the Kawasaki 650r, they're updated for this year and it's pretty badass looking.

Edit - The advantage being a more upright riding position and less peaky powerband compared to a pure supersport.

But I think something like the Suzuki SV650 would probably run away from this bike.

The FZ6 looks pretty badass. That doesn't have so much of a "bent back" riding style?

This is what you call a naked bike? Does Honda make something similar?

Yamaha also has the FZ6R which is tamer than the FZ6 with a severely detuned version of the previous gen's R6 motor.

Thats the Street triple... The speed and the 675 have little to nothing in common.

Here is my SV650

I've done springs/emulators with heavier fork oil, replaced the rear shock with a fully adjustable one, upgraded the front brakes to GSXR calipers, M4 slip-on muffler, frame and swingarm sliders (the latter are nice because it gives a good solid point for a rear stand). I also put Michelin Pilot Powers on it along with new handlebar, bar end mirrors, Givi windscreen and Pazzo levers.

The FZ6 is a nice bike but it is basically a naked, detuned version of the R6 so you have the peaky high revving inline 4 with less midrange torque than the SV. I've ridden an FZ6, it's a nice bike but I prefer the SV650.

FZ6/SV650/Honda 599 comparo.

SV650 Does look really awesome too. Plus the price isn't too bad. What do you think of the ride? Back/Wrist Stress?

I have a FZ6 and it's pretty comfortable to ride, but still start getting a little sore after 3-4 hours, but overall it's a very comfortable riding position.

coming from a long time cruiser, i used to trade bikes with friends on rides we did, but never could get used to sitting forward. its not very comfy at all, ends up hurting your lower back and wrists if you dont shift your weight off your hands. the weirdest part for me was stopping, as it seemed like i was going head first into everything that was in front of me.

Get a BMW touring bike, speed, comfort, reliability. Nuff said.

i just went to BMW's motorcycle website. i have decided i will never buy their bikes on account of an absolutely shitty website setup.

Yamaha for life 😛

Wrists should never hurt on a sportbike, your weight should be held up by your legs squeezing the tank. Balls on the pegs, squeeze the tank, keep the elbows bent, and be really light on the clipons. It makes all the difference in the world as far as fatigue goes when riding.

For the most part this has been true for me. I've put almost 3K miles on my CBR 600 in the last 1.5 months of owning it and my wrists are fine. And I'd say half of those miles have been on twisty roads countersteering and leaning the bike. I definitely did and still do get a lot of soreness in muscles that I previously have never worked in my life, lol.
