Question about Sony monitors

well two days ago I got a diamondtron 17" AOC monitor. 96KHz which would seem alright, super bright tube which I thought would be the perfect monitor, although only 0.25mm grille pitch. I didn't think that it (the pitch) would make any difference... anyway - the colors were beautiful and overall it was nice. but not the black text on white background. it just bugged out the hell out of me.. I was convinced it was slightly blurry and it drove me nuts. when I asked people around me - they would tell me it was fine.. regardless today I returned it.

so now I'm looking at a Sony CPD E250 monitor. 17", 96Khz, 0.24 - 0.25 grille pitch. how many of you guys have a Sony trinitron 17" with a variable dot pitch, and how do you like it? how is the text?

I didn't expect there to be such a huge difference between a diamondtron and a trinitron monitor, and since here at work I use a sony tube 19" CTX I thought it would be alright, but I didn't like that diamond AOC...

so any opinions on Sony monitors are welcome.. thanks! 🙂

well.. if someone can't get what I'm asking here it is - how is the text on variable grille pitch sony monitors.

hope that's better

I sold my Sony E200 to my friend a few years ago. We both agreed that it was the most visually stunning 17incher we both have ever seen.

Currently, I am using a Sony G520 and a Samsung 900NF. I prefer the visual quality of my Sony over my Samsung... I have spent long hours in front of an NEC monitor using the SuperBright Diamondtron NF CRT... looked very nice. Just as good if not better than my G520.

Don't know if this is any help, but we've put in about $10,000 in Sony monitors the past few years (flatscreens, CRts, a mix. Depending on the job...) and not one has died and they all look fabulous.

So, I'll continue to spend money on them.

Brag? I need them, that's all.

Let me first say that a Sony tube in another brand doesn't necessarily equal a Sony monitor. Outfits like CTX and AOC use cheaper electronics and for that matter I think Sony, Dell use higher quality control standards for the tubes they use. Some have even said KDS will use tubes Sony would not, ie Sony rejects.

Now, as far as TEXT. I would say that a good quality flat square shadow mask tube will be easier on your eyes viewing text. As far as color saturation a trinitrons colors will be brighter and more vibrant.

If you want a nice trinitron I wouldn't go further than a Dell or Sony or Ezio

Macro2, perhaps there's something true about third parties using slightly inferior tubes than what NEC or Sony would use, I was surprised by the blurriness of that diamondtron AOC..

anyway - I'll look for a place where I can try that Sony out then. thanks guys.
