question about software i need

i want to make it so that my windows media player files will be able to be burned to a dvd and then watched on a dvd player...how do i do this?

im sure there is freeware outthere that i can use but i dont no where it is and what i need... plz help

what format do i need to convert it to so i can play on a dvd player?
