Question about SMARTGART

I have a sapphire radeon 9600 pro and I'm using ATI's control panel or whatever they call it. Anyway, that SMARTGART part of it seems to have determined that the optimal setting for my system is....well there's this slidebar it has for AGP speed, with the options of 2x, 4x, and 8x. Now, my MB supports 8x, but SMARTGART has ruled that it should be set to "AGP Currently Turned off" does anyone know what I should do about this, or what it would even mean to turn off AGP....I mean, I dont get it, it can't be shutting down the slot...so what does it mean? What should I do?

Open up dxdiag and check if AGP is grayed out. If reinstalling your video card drivers don't work, try searching for drivers from your mobo manufacturer or chipset manufacturer.

I searched for new drivers for my mobo and installed them..then uninstalled and reinstalled the newest video drivers and still the same. My card is only operating at 1x agp.

As many people have problems with 8x agp, I would try turning it down to 4x agp in the bios. this sounds like it may just be an incompatibility with 8x agp
