Question about SLI motherboard & PCIe

If I were to purchase an SLI motherboard, but not use the SLI feature right away, the PCIe x8/16 slot could still be used for x1 cards?

Any manufacturers even releasing PCIe cards for anything other than x1 (besides video cards)?

I don't think the x16 slots can be used for 1x cards I think they need to have their own 1x slot because the slots look to be different sizes. I could be wrong though

one card will run 8x if you have 2 cards that are ment for sli than each card will run of 8x times that by 2 since 2 cards making 16x 😀

Yes according to Tom

"the A8N-SLI Deluxe from Asus offers two x1 PCIe slots where MSI does not - although the second x16 slot can be outfitted with a x1 card in a pinch. "
