Question about SLI and Display Initilization

I just added my 2nd 7800GT last night. Everything works fine once Windows boots up, however from post until the desktop appears my display *Samsung 710T using DVI* is completetly blank. The power light flashes like the computer is turned off.

Normally it isnt an issue, but if I want to edit the BIOS, or boot into safe mode, I am having to go back to a single card configuration, which works normally with both cards.

Is this "working as intended" or a legitimate issue I should be trying to reslove.

Thanks,

Move the DVI cable to a different port. I believe you should use the port furthest from the motherboard on the card closest to the cpu. I had the same trouble as you and that solved it for me.

I think I tried that at some point last night. The other 3 ports never brought up the display at all. I will double check when I get home though, thanks for the tip.

I have a Samsung 710T using DVI and sometimes it doesn't display anything until the bootloader welcome screen. Don't know why. It's probably just this ASUS mobo though. What motherboard are you using?

I am using the EVGA NF-41 mobo and 2 Evga 7800Gt's. Its really wierd because the display works, and has always initialized right away before with several different configurations of single cards.

That is one thing I haven't tried to remove from the equation yet though. Maybe tonight I will try it in Analog mode, or try another display altogether.

Edit...

Doh !! Looks like OE afterall 😱

Good call Elfear,

Apparently EVGA wants the bottom card, bottom DVI farthest from the CPU and closest to the mobo..

I had them plugged into the top card closest to the CPU, when I should have it plugged into the bottom one.

I could have sworn I tried that last night too.. oh well.. Ill blame it on their $hit users manual 😉
