In this thread I was informed about SETI driver and have loaded it on a machine. What I would like to know is if there is some way to get it to auto start when then computer was turned on?

What I do on my dual proc NT4 machine is this:
Run seti driver with 2 instances and the checkbox for set affinity checked and 8 cached units.
(this box runs in the dark with no keybord / mouse or vid and is almost never logged on)

Then to start I use a prog like srvany that will make any process run like a service.

For Win98 I don't know if there is any such prog. I believe Win2K comes with this built in, but have not used it yet (anybody elas know about this one?)

Wiz, your computer savvy is far superior to mine but I think all he needs to do is create a "Start Menu" program through the usual Start/Taskbar and StartMenu/ADD routine to get it to start on boot-up. ;)

Smokeball, yes if he logs on without user name and password that will work.
I'm so used to network environments both for home and work that I automatically assume everyone uses a user name / password to log on to their machine.

yakko, if you don't log on with a user name and password and you do use a Windows machine then just put a shortcut to seti driver in your start up folder.

If you do log on, and you want it to start whenever the machine starts, then my first reply applies. There - clear as mud yet?

If you put the shortcut in the StartUp folder make sure you go into the shortcut properties and have it run minimized. :)

Sukhoi, (good point about minimizing) now that you mention that I have a question myself.

I have just recently placed all of my LAN machines under one instance of SetiQueue. I am continuing to use SetiDriver. I have noticed that when a WU is now completed and uploads through the SetiQueue Machine's Proxy I end up with a minimized SetiDriver in my tray area. This is happening on all of the machines. It didn't happen prior to SetiQ.

Any idea what's going on?

Smokeball: You mean a DOS program minimized on the start bar that goes away once it's done transmiting? If that's it then uncheck display transmit in SETI driver.

No Swanny, that's not what I'm referring. I'm trying to describe the tab that remain in your tray (not your startup tray) when you minimize a program (any program). I have a minimized SetiDriver in the tray after it uploads a completed WU. SetiDriver's property in my startup folder has been set to run "minimized".

I don't know any better way to describe what's going on. It's not that big of a deal...I just click the minimized tab of SetiDriver, SetiDriver window opens, I click the Close "x" and SetiDriver disappears back into the startup tray as the usual blue icon. It's just aggravating.:|

Forgot to update but I got it. I just put a shortcut in the startup folder. I thought it would be something a little more difficult than that. Thanks for all the help guys.

i'm interested in the srvany function because right now if i put one shortcut in startup it launches 2 copies of setidriver. plus the computers wait for user input if they can't connect to network drives. running win2k.

ElFenix, I can make a SETI Driver service install for NT/2K, but I dunno how the heck you'd configure it, etc. Tell me if you want it though.

If ya want to run a service on a win2k box, this is the cat's meow. :)

I use it to run seti on several boxes. You can set it up with either a command line or gui interface. It comes with both.
