Question about SETI CLI

I am using 98SE and the system hangs at shutdown. the instructions say:

<< Download and unzip into your windows directory the file Default.zip to instruct Windows to close the SETI CLI when exiting. You may need to reboot after to activate this change. Note this windows patch doesn't always work with Windows 98 original edition. The file you are unzipping is called _Default.PIF and contains the information to tell Windows to honor application close instructions. It only impacts 16 bit (DOS) and 32 bit console applications. >>

So, I assume I have to also put a shortcut in the startup folder, is that right?

Hey SpookyFish! By default the cli does not close when you tell Win9x to shutdown. I use SetiDriver to control the client and when I exit SetiDriver it closes the client. So, before I shutdown, or reboot a system I right-mouse click on the SetiDriver icon in the Systray and tell it to Exit, then the system shutsdown without a problem.

I download the default file you listed on one system and it worked. It goes in the C:\Windows directory. It is a default .pif file for any dos box. It has been configured to close a dos box without protest.

There's an easier way. 🙂 Go into c:\windows\system and go into the properties for conagent.exe uncheck "warn after termination" or something similar to that. Then the CLI won't yell at you when you shut down.
