I printed the envelope using the stamps.com software, and picked the "Certified Mail" option. It printed the envelope with the stamp cost plus certified cost and charged me accordingly.

My question is, do I have to take it to the post office and get a mailing receipt since its certified, or can I drop it in the regular outgoing mail slot?

Yes.. One above the mailing address and one below... its not so much a barcode, more like a bunch of different sized small lines from left to right... kinda like a barcode but not all the same height

Certified mail gives you proof of mailing and when it's delivered you get a card returned to you as proof of delivery.

I am very sure that if you simply drop it in the mail, you'll get neither of those because it won't look any different than regular first-class mail. Take it to the Post Office, fill out the certified mail card and give it to the clerk to attach to your envelope.
