SCSI and ATA/IDE are completely different standards and are not compatible. The reason that your motherboard thinks that your ATA/100 drive on the Promise is SCSI is that in the past, the only support for bootable devices not connected through the motherboard was SCSI, so when ATA/33/66/100 cards came out, they posed as SCSI cards in order for them to work correctly with the current BIOS setup. You will notice the same thing in Windows, the promise card appears under the listing for SCSI devices in Device Manager. So... the CD-RW will not work on your card, you would need a real SCSI card which has a different connector (there are many variations of SCSI so if you do decide to get a card, make sure that you get one that is compatible with what you want to use it on).
