Question about SBC DSL and free dial up...

well i have dsl from sbc and as some of you may know, there's free 56k dial up access included with the package.

Question: is it okay for me to give my 56k info to a friend to use for dial up, or is that bad?

do you want to know if they will allow you to or if you can get away with it? just call and ask if it's allowed if not it's nit worth the risk to save somebody else money.

I'd imagine its a backup account , in which case is used like a backup account. SBC RADIUS may have limited to one authenticated session per user too, which means DSL & 56K using the same account could be mutually exclusive.

I have SBC DSL, and I have DSL upstairs for my computers plus I have a laptop downstairs that can use the dial-up connection. So if a relative comes over and needs internet access, we both have access simultaneously.

As for your question, I personally don't think they will care unless your friend abuses it. Plus, according to SBC, you can only have one DSL connection and one dial-up connection active at any one time. So if, for example, you're traveling and need internet access, you can't use a SBC dial-up connection if your friend is using the dial-up connection and your DSL is on at the same time.

it does work, i let a family member use my dial-up account while i was connected to DSL (never turned it off).

whether or not it is "right" to do so, that's up to you to decide.

I have SBC DSL at my adopted parents house, and I'm always using it when I'm at a friends house or my biological parents house... the dialup connection gets more use than the DSL, even tho they are always both active at the same time.

why the fvck would anyonewants_to_use_56k'lamer's connectin when 26.95 is not to pay for much higher speed..hell my rich cousin was cheap, i gave him a paid juno account. after a month of hell for him, he went back to sbc dsl which his mom cancelled cause like I said they were cheap and didn't think paying more money was worth it. guess that got backfired on them, and on top of that they had 200.00 cancellation fee waived, oh wow! 🙂

i have SBC DSL. from what i understand, you can have your DSL connection connected and have 2 connections to the dial-up account at the same time (just like a normal dial-up account, this allows you to use multiple modems if you need extra speed, or connect at more than one location). also, i have never seen or heard anything about the hours being limited. they make it sound like it's basically a complimentary full-on dial-up account. i've used it many times when i was away from home. so my guess is no one would ever know.

When I had SBCDSL I would use my dial up for 8 hours a day at work with no problems.
