Question about SATA RAID...

I'm thinking about picking up an ABIT AA8 motherboard. It has 1 ide channel for 2 ide devices (which will be my DVD burner and DVD-ROM drive), as well as 4 SATA channels, and it supports RAID 0/1.

Heres my question. Is it possible to have 1 drive for the OS, 1 drive for storage, and then stripe 2 drives for performance? Or if you run a RAID set up do all drives need to be part of that array?

Thanks,

Eddie

I'm pretty sure that you can set up the RAID array with whatever number of drives you want (minimum of 2 obviously) :)

You should be able to set it up the way you want to, you can have the 2 single drives, and the other 2 drives in raid.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick replies.

Does the motherboard come with the software to do this or is it built right into windows?

Thanks,

The way it works on my motherboard is that the controller has its own BIOS and you set up the array stuff within that...not in Windows. Not sure about your motherboard.
