Question about retrieving a domain name...

I had a domain name awhile back, and neglected to renew it on time. It expired, and I forgot my login/e-mail/etc. for namecheap.com where I originally registered it. When I search for it now, it says it's taken. Has someone else registered it (highly improbable, as it's a weird, long, personalized domain name nobody else would want)? Is there any way I can retrieve the info to register it again? Thanks.

If it's the domain I'm thinking of you may still be able to register it. It recently expired and seems to be in limbo which is good.

I would HIGHLY recommend sending an e-mail to support@namecheap.com asking them about the status of your domain and if you can renew it.

you know, you can check who it's registered to now and if that's you, then email namecheap support and ask them

It's the same one, RossMAN. Thank you, and thanks also to emmpee and Beattie for the info. I'll do so now.

http://www.whois.sc/ - plug your domain name in there and it will tell you who has it registered... most likely namecheap is holding onto it for a while.

Yeah I think domain registrar's usually have a hold or lock on the domain up to 45 days after expiration.

It just expired March 17th, so you're cutting it close. E-mail support TODAY!

Yikes!! 😕

"Hello,
If a domain is not renewed during the grace period, which is approx. 30 days after the expiration date, then it goes into a "redemption period". You still can renew the domain at this stage, but at a fee of $200 that we are charged by the registry. If the domain is not renewed at this stage, then it is released to the public aprox. 75 days after the expiration date.
Best,

NameCheap.com
Templates.com
PeopleHost.com"

Damn you missed the 30 day window by 16 days 🙁

$200 is outrageous, I would mark your calendar for June 1, 2004 which should be 75 days from March 17th. When it becomes available again register it for $8.88 vs $200.

Done (calendar marked), thanks much sir.

i think it's time to register another quirky name instead of playing the waiting or paying game.

Was the website wowimeetaguyandgetengagedtogetmarriedwithin6weeksthanksomuchatot.com ?

Just kidding with ya dezign 😉

That reminds me, Namecheap double billed me for one of my domains, and they haven't replied to my "give me a refund" email. Guess I'll have to contact the MC ppl.

Ivy,

Bad news, if you do a WHOIS lookup for your domain it shows:

Domain Name:
Registrar: A TECHNOLOGY COMPANY, INC. D/B/A NAMESYSTEM.COM
Whois Server: whois.namesystem.com
Referral URL: http://www.NameSystem.com
Name Server: DNS.POOL.COM
Name Server: DNS2.POOL.COM
Status: ACTIVE
Updated Date: 04-jun-2004
Creation Date: 04-jun-2004
Expiration Date: 04-jun-2005

So in other words, some company probably registered it hoping she'd want to buy it from them? Or something.

How horrible... I have no idea who would do that. It's a highly specialized name, not usable by anyone else unless they really wanted to sell it back... problem is, person who originally owned it used it for all their marketing/advertising purposes, and now they don't know what to do. 🙁
