Question about replacing mobo's stock chipset cooling

I have a simple question really. I want to replace the stock NB heatsink on DFI LP DK P35 board. The heatsink is attched via couple of pushpins. Basically i'd like to know if can i use screws to attach the aftermarket heatsink instead of pushpins? Reason i ask is because i suspect that pushpins are being used for a reason: in order not to put too much pressure on the NB and i'm afraid that if i use screws that I may damage it. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Push pins w/ springs apply balanced pressure, uneven pressure can chip the chip.:) For many waterblocks I use bolts w/ a lock-nut and fiber washers on the board and a thumb-nut w/ spring to hold the block.

I used an Zalman NB47J (which has push-pins) for one motherboard and one thing you can do is put a 40mm fan on it. (I used long bolts.) I can't remember exactly which company again that makes silent 40mm fans, I think it was either Nexus or SilentX.

Well, i'm planning to use Thermalright HR 05 IFX and it comes with screws. It does say on their site that it is compatible with my mobo's NB. I assume that i can use the screws that come with the cooler since they say its ok. Or should i still use the original NB pushpins?

custom mounts if your going that route.

Reason why i say that is because the stock is going to offer 2 kinds of mounts. The hard mount, the non pushpins, will probably not fit, and was more designed for the old intel mount style.

The pushpins arent bad on the HR-05 and you dont need super mounting pressure.

You can see how i did mine with the hard mount option.

So you are saying that i can do it either way: the screws if they fit and pushpins if the screws dont fit? Do i understand u correctly?

yes, but you just need to think outside on how your gonna do it.

As i said its originally ment for the OG stock wire mounts. But if your creative, you can use it as a hardmount.
