Hello. I recently had my GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX intel motherboard die on me and I am in the market for a replacement. Unfortunately this particular model is not available anywhere I look so I was hoping you guys could help me find a replacement. I do plan to eventually upgrade to more modern motherboards/cpus however I need a temporary stopgap in the meantime. My current specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4
Radeon HD 4870 X2
G.SKILL 4GB SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Windows 7 64 bit

I am trying to find a motherboard that supports my video card (it needs a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot) and my RAM speed (DDR2 1066). I have looked at some mobos such as MSI and it seems a lot of them only support RAM speeds of DDR2 667/800. I am not sure if that would mean my RAM would not be able to be used. I am willing to buy some RAM as well as long as its relatively cheap. I am trying to spend no more than 100 dollars. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

If you are not overclocking, you can run the DDR at lower speed 666/800 without any problems -- that is just the fastest speed for your RAM.

When my Gigabyte P35 board died, I replaced it with a $35 Foxconn G31 micro-ATX and it worked fine with my E8400, 4 GB and 6850. mATX does fit into regular size cases.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-xxxx would be my recommendation. I have the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L and it works great. Supports the Wolfdale processors and RAM speeds up to 1333mHz. Basically any P45 Gigabyte would work. I think the lite models go for $50 on Ebay, and the ones with SLI or DDR3 are about $100.

I bought a used Intel DG43NB motherboard off eBay for ~$20. Socket 775, DDR2, G43 chipset, full-size ATX board.

Works fine with E7500 CPU. Some business place was upgrading their machines, and had several of these slightly outdated socket 775 boards to sell. I just use the onboard video, but there's a 16x PCIe video card slot available, if you wanted to add a video card.

The Newegg.com specs for that board say it only has a 90-day warranty, so you might want to pick one of the other 5 or so G31 / G41 boards that Newegg stocks.

This Biostar G41 is $50 with a 3-year warranty:

OP, this looks good to me. It's a basic, inexpensive board that will tide you over until you can upgrade your CPU/mobo/RAM. There's no reason to spend a bunch of money on a new LGA 775 mobo these days.

You can also check the FS/T forum if you want something better than a GXX chipset, but don't want to pay too much.

The only thing to note about this is that G41 boards with 1333MHz FSB chips are practically un-overclockable. G31 boards are actually a little better in my experience. Of course, if you're not overclocking, no worries.
