Question about RAM

Ok, I just a humble newbie, but I have a question.

I found some RAM in my old computer and I was wondering if it's possible for me to put that RAM in my new computer. What they're different brands? WIll they still work together?

I have 128MB in the computer I'm running now and 128MB in my old one. Can I combine the two?

Please note, my old computer was an Intel, this one is an AMD.

Should I look at them and see what brands they are and report back?

Help would be much appreciated.

I got in, and I looked.

The old one is 2 sticks of 64MB (samsung), not sure of the speed or anything.

The newer one is one stick of "128MB 226 DDR"

Do you think these will go together? That's about all I could find out about them.

Slot #1: DDR-SDRAM 128MB
Max bandwidth: PC2100 (133Mhz)
Manufacturer: Hitashi
Not buffered, not registered.

For the other computer, I am unable to turn it on.

The motherboard broke some how (so I'm told), and they just put a new processor and motherboard and I transfered my old power supply, HDs, and other stuff. I have new Mobo, RAM, and processor.

I've got the old RAM sitting here on my desk. Is there a place I can type in the serial number to see what it's specs are?

If its just sitting on your desk make sure it's on something anti-static unless you want to fry it. Is there a make or model on it at all?
 
If the RAM is the wrong type, you will be physically unable to install it. My suggestion would be to see if it fits in your slot, then boot it up and try it out.

However, 64 MB DDR DIMMs are fairly uncommon. Most of the time 128 MB was the lower limit. So I bet it's ordinary (single-channel) SDRAM, in which case it's incompatible with the DDR.

If you'd prefer figure it out before installation, just tell us everything written on the RAM. I could probably tell you what you have from what's printed on the sticker.

That's about all it says. I've got two of them.

hurts, So if it fits into the socket, it will work?

It won't fit. That's RDRAM. You will not find any new computer that uses that type of RAM, and probably not too many older computers either, for that matter.

I'll just suffer with this 128MB for another month until I get a new Dell.

Sounds like a good idea to me. They're not doing any good sitting in an abandon motherboard in an old case. Thnx.
