l am building the following system-
amd 64 3000+ venice cpu
chaintech vnf4/ultra mobo
1 gig [2x512] pc3200 ocz ddr
l am trying to choose between the gold series [non-vx] ram [ 2-2-2-5, 141 bucks] and the lower end rev 3 performance series [2-3-3-6, 109 bucks], and l need a few questions answered. the first is, how much of a difference l will notice in real-world performance from the faster ram timings of the 2-2-2-5 golds as compared to the 2-3-3-6 rev 3 sticks? l'm looking for some rough numbers on game performance, media playback w/light multitasking in the background, and 3d-graphics creation [down the road]. second, while the overclockability of the gold sticks apparently borders on the awe-inspiring, from the reviews l've read, l've seen nothing about ramping up the rev 3 dimms. can they be oc'd at all, and if so by how much? l've never overclocked anything in my life, but the research l've done on the components above suggests they are ripe for it, especially the cpu. l'm hoping the rev 3 ram is the same. before you ask, yes, the extra 30-odd dollar difference between the two dimm sets is a consideration, at least right now. if the only difference between 2-2-2 and 2-3-3 is an extra few frames in far cry at 1600x1200- 4x aa/8x af then l can't justify spending the extra cash. any help you all could give would be most appreciated.
