What are the benefits of having a RAID mobo? How does it work? I know you could connect multiple HDs. Are the HDs assigned new drive letters? for example like a Cdrom drive. Or you can only boot from them? Kinda a dumb question, anybody know what im talking about?

There are multuple confirguraions that are possible but the most common two for desktop systems is raid 0, stripped, and raid 1, mirrored. In the stripe configuration 2 drives act as one with only part of the information being written to each drive. Thus performance is increased because only half the information needs to written to each drive and the information is written and read at the same time. As for mirrored drives the two drives again act as one drive but everything that is copied to one is automatically copied to the other one. Thus instant backup of important files and such.
