Question about processor vcore

I have a MSI K7 Master mobo and noticed in my bios settings it only allows me to run the vcore up to 1.6v. I have seen others running 1.4ghz t-birds at up to 1.8 or so. Since I'm a newbie at mobo stuff, I was wondering if it will allow me to go higher when I install a 1.4 t-bird (am running a 600 duron right now) or will 1.6 be the highest it'll go? Will this be enough to run a 1.4ghz t-bird stable?

No, if you put a 1.4 Ghz it will be at the default VCORE, 1.8 like you said.
Your mobo is set at default VCORE, so it will just be voltage of the cpu.
To change the voltage probably you gonna have to change some jumper in the mobo.
The max speed of the cpu may vary from cpu to cpu, you need more voltage in the core to make the cpu more stable.

Yes, it would be at 1.8v.

Well I dont know if you can set the VCORE higher than 1.8, you might check in the manual, if theres a jumper you can change. I know that in Asus mobo A7V133 you can change it thru jumpers. And thru BIOS you can change but theres no effect.

Thanks for the replies. I was a tad concerned that I had just purchased an underpowered motherboard. I know it's all obsolete by Christmas anyway but by then hopefully nForce boards will be out (drooling over high memory bandwidth mmm)

BTW, a KT133A mobo obsolete? LOL what would you call a Asus P2-99 mobo?

actually the K7 Master uses the AMD 760 chipset and DDR, but with all the tests I've been running, lead to a processor bottleneck. One benchmark even flat out said "Your processor is too slow for this system, and cannot process as much information as the rest of the system will deliver. Consider upgrading to a faster processor."

I also have an older slot-A athlon @ 800 mhz I'm thinking of turning into a Linux box, but my second "whole" computer is running a dual pentium II set-up. Oddly enough, I can play games, run programs, or just about anything else on that second computer without any problem. Just one of those things where you gotta have the newest, latest greatest thing out. Only I don't have time to wait for nForce boards

Just out of curiosity, which benchmark was that?

Dacris benchmarks, not sure the exact program name but thats what comes up when I run it. It also told me my hard drive sux (tho I already knew this much)
