I have one of the Dell Dimension 4400's (I know, not custom built, but it was too cheap to resist OK). It came with a CDRW drive and I want to add a cdrom becuase I have one to copy CD to CD easier/quicker. The question is: Can I hook the second CDROM to the Primary IDE cable with the ata100 hard drive and if I do, is it ging to slow down or mess upthe speed of hte hard drive ? I have a ZIP 250 drive hooked to the other ide cable with the CDRW and could move it but the question woudl be the same for the ZIP on the ata 100 w/ the hard drive (I use it to back up my quicken and do not want to take it out-- just trying to anticipate quesions/suggestions :) )

Backup you harddrive (use ghost) to CD. Then Try.
most hard drive ATA100 (mode 4, 5)
most CDRW ATA 66 max
most CDROM ATA 33.

I *think* modern IDE controllers will run devices of different speeds on the same bus. Try it out and see how it works.
